Overview: Tuckahoe Turf Farms is searching for qualified individuals for our summer 2024 sports turf internship. This position is designed to provide individuals with a hands on opportunity to experience turfgrass management through a different lens of the industry. Primarily, individual(s) will be assisting in growing and maintaining our GameDay bluegrass and bermudagrass sod for our sports field customers. The goal of this internship is that the individual(s) will leave having gained extensive knowledge of the management and lifecycle of sod that is designed and manicured for sports fields at the highest level.

Job Description:

• Assist in daily inspection, planting, mowing, fertilization, moisture management, and harvesting GameDay bluegrass and bermudagrass.
• Evaluate daily weather in accordance with tasks as well as harvesting schedules.
• Operate farm equipment/perform regular mowing, trimming, verti-cutting, topdressing, and spraying of assigned fields in a safe manor.
• Assist with field renovation/restoration and new field development.
• Maintain equipment; provide support with fleet management including washing, oil changes, greasing, tire pressure, and blade maintenance of mowers.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in 2 or 4 year turf management program or related field.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, possible weekends.
• Possess positive professional attitude with desire to learn about all aspects of sod farm management.
• Ability to work with strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
• Valid drivers license

Compensation: $13/hour + overtime. Housing is included
