SAFE

The Foundation for Safer Athletic Fields for Everyone (SAFE) is the charity of SFMA. SAFE was founded in 2000 to fund research, educational programs and scholarships geared to the sports field profession. As a 501 c3 non-profit foundation, donations are tax deductible as allowable by law.

SAFE’s History

The Foundation for Safer Athletic Fields for Everyone (SAFE) was created in December of 2000 to provide research, educational programs and scholarships geared to the sports field profession.

SAFE is the charitable arm of the nation’s only association for the sports field management industry – the Sports Field Management Association (SFMA). SFMA is the not-for-profit, professional association for the men and women who manage sports fields.

SAFE’s Mission

SAFE believes that it has a fundamental responsibility to facilitate safe and environmentally friendly sports and recreational fields for athletes of all ages and ability. Its Board of Trustees recognizes this potential and has shifted from an internal organization to an externally focused organization.

SAFE’s mission: To enrich communities through championing safe, sustainable sports and recreation fields for all athletes.

  • Contribute to the growth and enjoyment of outdoor sports activities
  • Add to the safety and performance of athletes of all ages and ability levels
  • Enrich community health and interaction through physical activity and healthier lifestyles
  • Partner with communities to create sustainable green spaces
  • Strengthen the sports turf management profession through educational funding

SAFE generates funding for its programs through member and industry donations, grants from other foundations, and events held at the annual SFMA Conference and Exhibition: an annual golf tournament, bowling event, auctions and raffles.
