The Athletics Division Manager for our Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) department has a starting pay range of $85,009.60 – $95,014.40, depending on experience, with both opportunities for growth and development to all county employees! Job Description:
- Develop and direct the implementation of maintenance goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for a division of 100(+) athletic fields.
- Manage staff that are directly responsible for the oversight of over 35(+) formal agreements approved by the Board of County Commissioners for use of facilities.
- Ensure safe, optimal playing surfaces and parks with the development and implementation of agronomy and environmental turf grass management practices including pest/disease/weed management.
- Complete facility condition assessments and regular inspections.
- Prepare and monitor budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of sports facilities in accordance with master plans and defined maintenance standards.
- Promote effective and trustworthy working relationships by developing and empowering employees, promoting and supporting collaboration, excellence, efficiency, innovation, openness and team work among staff.
- Continually re-evaluate processes, procedures, budgets, business plans, staffing plans, performance measures and methods that affect the efficiency, quality and cost of services.
- Perform interview panels and approve hiring within the division.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, reporting and insurance requirements.
- Establish and monitor data and metrics through regularly produced RecTrac reports including revenue, outstanding collections, insurance compliance, non-profit tax exempt requirements and other related information.
- Make presentations and communicate with community groups, staff, the Board of County Commissioners (BCC), and other interested agencies or parties regarding services, programs, policies, projects, strategies, and priorities.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, organizing and supporting tournaments and events including but not limited to large-scale sports tourism supporting local economic impact.
- Manage capital improvement projects within division including working closely with Parks Planning and Development division.
- Support department strategic plans, goals and national accreditation efforts.
- Work in partnership with fellow divisions within PRNR and additional county departments for successful management of parks.
Work Hours: 40 hours/week, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Nights and/or weekends may often be required, depending on the needs of the community and work unit.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Parks, Recreation, Sports Management, or closely related field with Six (6) years of related experience.
- -OR- Master’s Degree with four (4) or more years of related experience.
- May consider substituting years of experience for the four (4) year degree.
- Supervisory Experience Required
- Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in leading an athletics division within a parks, recreation or similar agency modeling a caring, collaborative and open culture and environment which values the individual, teams and teamwork, ethical conduct, exemplary customer service and quality results.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
