Manager, Field Operations

Job Summary:
Assist Director of Field Operations in repairing and maintaining the playing surface at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to the highest standard by assisting in the performance of all field-related maintenance practices, including but not limited to: Infield skin, pitching mounds, home plate maintenance; timely fertility and cultural practices; game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning & budgeting. The Manager of Field Operations will also assist with offseason planning and equipment maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise, schedule, mentor and train seasonal interns and part-time game day staff.
  • Step in to assume Director of Field Operations role in absence of Director of Field Operations
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes, but is not limited to turf (mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, over-seeding, discovery/control of weeds, insects, and diseases) and soil (infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, warning track) management.
  • Assisting to help manage and maintain the irrigation system.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for pre-game batting practice by setting up cage, screens, mats, and protective field covers.
  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for game use by grooming field, chalking base path foul lines, painting outfield foul lines, marking coaching boxes.
  • Assist in coordination and execution of infield tarp pulls.
  • Track grounds department inventory (fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.).
  • Assist in the planning and execution of non-Dodger related events that include but are not limited to: collegiate and high school baseball, concerts, graduations, corporate partner field days, winter events, etc.
  • Assist Facilities Department with duties that include, but are not limited to, HVAC, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, preventative maintenance and other projects during the winter months (Nov – Feb).

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive relationship with umpires & coaches in weather-related matters.
  • Develop a relationship with home and visiting managers to coordinate pre-game batting practice.
  • Participate in additional professional education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two-year or Four-year degree preferably in Turfgrass Management or related field and at least one-year related experience in sports turf management, preferably in professional baseball.
  • Candidates without a degree, but have experience adequate and equivalent in an Manager or Director of Field Operations in a professional baseball role or equivalent role in overseeing/managing professional sports field or golf course will be considered.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, skills, and practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak season in outdoor weather conditions.
