Job Summary:
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is presently in search of eligible candidates for the position of Senior Equipment Mechanic. The Senior Equipment Mechanic will conduct high-level mechanical maintenance, inspections, and repairs on gas or diesel engines of small to moderate size to include equipment like gators, snow blowers, excavators, and similar machinery. Duties consist of assessing complex repair manuals and equipment documentation, diagnosing mechanical or related equipment problems, determining appropriate repair techniques, coordinating vendor warranty work when necessary, and locking out unsafe equipment.

The core responsibilities of the Senior Equipment Mechanic will involve working with powered equipment and performing repairs. The qualified individual will be tasked with maintaining different types of equipment at a superior level.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages the upkeep and repair of suitable powered equipment.
  • Arranges necessary warranty work with suitable outside vendors.
  • Oversees and aids department personnel in readying vehicles and equipment for deployment in departmental activities and emergency response incidents.
  • Ensures that vehicles and equipment are ready for departmental operations and emergency response events as designated by the department.
  • Partners with the Fleet Management Team of the County to align efforts for the evaluation and maintenance of departmental vehicles with contracted vendors.
  • Provides training to department staff on equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Undertakes further duties as required or directed by the relevant supervisor(s).

Salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferably with specialized training in equipment repair, diagnostics, or in a similar trade (through either a vocational school and/or apprenticeship) and three (3) years of related experience in equipment maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements:

  • Pass pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire; OSHA, forklift, bucket truck, and other lift truck training as required within department timeframes.
  • Hold or obtain a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements within six (6) months of hire.
