Assistant Groundskeeper

The Kansas City Current is seeking an Assistant Groundskeeper to maintain the Northbridge Bermudagrass pitch at the KC Current stadium and the surrounding landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Run the day-to-day maintenance of the pitch at the KC Current stadium along with the equipment that’s used.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on various pieces of equipment and ensure all equipment remains in working and operational condition.
  • Works with the Head Groundskeeper, Operations department, and the rest of the organization to fulfill the needs of the KC Current first team and to deliver a safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing playing surface.
  • Must be willing to spend the necessary time to get the task at hand done well.
  • Develop a comprehensive field maintenance program that aligns with usage of the facility that includes but is not limited to mowing, fertility, pesticide/herbicide applications, scheduled use of water, usage of SGL grow lights, field heating, SubAir system, etc.
  • Represent the Kansas City Current and its related affiliates in a professional manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties to support the KC Current’s mission to become the best women’s soccer club in the world!

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Previous experience operating sports field equipment.
  • Previous experience with multiple grass types in transition zones, including Bermudagrass and Ryegrass.
  • Member and participant of the Sports Field Managers Association preferred.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Calendar.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a turfgrass related field
  • At least two years of turfgrass related experience
  • Obtain Missouri Pesticide Applicators License within 6 months of hire

Physical Requirements:

  • Hours are variable and will include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in various degrees of outdoor weather conditions, including but not limited to, extreme heat and cold or rain.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
  • Ability to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.

ABOUT KC CURRENT
We’re making history in Kansas City. The Current are building the first stadium purpose-built for a National Women’s Soccer League team in the country. The stadium is expected to be complete in the spring of 2024. With a capacity of 11,500, it’s also the first stadium built for a single professional sports team in the history of downtown KC. Located next to Berkley Riverfront Park it will be easily accessible for all modes of transportation and the stadium will become a hub for the growth of the downtown KC and a more impactful future, including being a host city for the World Cup in 2026!

The Current training complex and staff facilities are also first of its kind in the world. Opened on June 21, 2022, it’s the first training complex built specifically for a women’s professional sports team.
