Position Summary
The Turf Care Groundskeeper in the Landscape Management Department provides all manner of care and maintenance of landscapes and lawn areas through the implementation of turf care programs.
Working under the general supervision of the Foreperson, it is expected that the Turf Care Groundskeeper will work within and across their department with other staff in Landscape Management to perform their primary tasks.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
Technical Operation:
- Working with other Turf Care Groundskeepers provide general landscape care and maintenance parkwide for all turf care operations and programs
- Operate wide area mowers to maintain park lawns independently on an established schedule meeting organizational standards
- Preform advanced irrigation maintenance and repairs as needed through understanding of troubleshooting and identification of proper repair methods
- Assist in parkwide chemical and fertilizer applications by (and not limited to):
- Calibrating application equipment
- Safe handling and loading of liquid pesticides/fertilizers in parkwide applications in accordance with laws and regulations
- Independently apply granular fertilizers on established schedule parkwide
- Preform material additions, grading and leveling of soft surface areas and operation of associated equipment
- Assist in the maintenance athletic fields by grading, leveling and preparing fields seasonally
- Operate all types of turf care equipment including large tractors with various implements for aeration of lawns and performing renovations and seeding on an assigned schedule
- Advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance on all machinery used in Turf Care parkwide operations and work collaboratively with mechanics to make necessary repairs
- Perform snow removal and ice mitigation on park drives, park perimeter and other hard surfaces with machines and physical labor to provide appropriate levels of access as per established organizational standards
Collaboration & Communication:
- Assist in the preparation of special events as needed
- Works with volunteers and seasonal interns
- Cooperate with other staff within the department and other department personnel in completing assigned tasks
- Displays the necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups
- Interact with Park patrons and colleagues in a courteous and professional manner
Related Work:
- Operate various types of equipment including utility vehicles, loaders, lifts, trucks and tractors (including implements) as directed
- Safe operation of heavy machinery such as front-end loader and heavy-duty trucks for various operations including organic material recycling operations
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and report items that require repair
- Participates in all training sessions and seminars
- Reports on malfunctioning infrastructure, furnishings, safety hazards, quality of life issues
- Perform related work as assigned
